Remembrance Day is observed in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.
As we pause to reflect this Remembrance Day, we have the opportunity to contribute stories of local commemoration to help build the National Register of War Memorials.
Places of Pride is an Australian War Memorial initiative to record the location and gather images of every war memorial in Australia.
We are fortunate to have significant and well publicised war memorials in our region, however there are also others closer to home in the Bean electorate that serve to recognise the sacrifice our our service men and women.
For example, the Naval Association of Australia (ACT Section) Memorial and the Garden of Remembrance in Phillip (pictured above) are just two example of memorials in our electorate that give an opportunity for us to pause and recognise those who have served throughout the year.
The Australian War Memorial is asking for the community to help build the nation’s archive by putting the memorials in Bean on the map.
I encourage you to find the memorials, upload photos and contribute stories at https://placesofpride.awm.gov.au.
