Taking action on fuel prices and supply

31 March 2026

From David Smith MP - March eNews

We recognise that international events have put further cost of living pressure on Australian motorists through increased fuel prices. That can put pressure on the price of everything.

The Albanese Government is halving the fuel excise on petrol and diesel for three months. This means a reduction of 26.3 cents per litre — nearly $19 off a 65L tank.

The Australian Government is also taking action by:

  • releasing millions of litres from our national fuel reserves
  • temporarily changing the rules so we can keep fuel that would otherwise have been exported, and
  • cracking down on petrol stations that use the conflict to overcharge consumers.
