Winter sport finals fever is humming around town. It brings a real sense that spring is here.

Congratulations to all of those who have taken part in winter sport this year and all the best to those still competing over coming weeks.

Here’s hoping we can all ride with the Canberra Raiders all the way through to the NRL Grand Final at the end of the month!

Win, lose or draw finals are a wonderful culmination of the community energy and spirit that drives sport at all levels. We couldn’t do it without our volunteers. I was pleased to be able to announce 30 volunteer grants recently across Bean – detail is below.

The Australian Parliament sat in the first week of September. The Albanese Labor Government continued to deliver the legislative change to deliver a fairer Australia, including:

• Making it easier to buy your first home – first home buyers will only need a 5% deposit from 1 October 2025.
• Protecting penalty rates – if you’re on minimum award wages your penalty rates are here to stay.
• Making medicines cheaper for all Australians – from January 1 you won’t pay more than $25 for a PBS script.

There’s lots to do. As your federal representative in Canberra’s south I’ll keep working hard to deliver for our community.
