Babies and toddlers converged with their parents and caregivers on South.Point Tuggeranong for a unique event to ‘welcome the babies’ to the Bean electorate.
David Smith MP, Federal Member for Bean, hosted the event designed to ensure that new parents were connected to information and support, but also genuinely welcome the babies to the community.
“The concept of ‘welcoming the babies’ might seem kitsch, however it is genuinely about giving the message that parents are not alone and that our whole community supports a child growing up through services, support and friendship,” David Smith said.
Centrelink, Kidsafe, Child and Family Centre and Maternal and Child Health were in attendance. Families had a chance to play with Playgroups ACT. The family photo booth was popular and attendees went home with a goodie bag supported by local services and businesses.
The Growing up in Bean booklet was launched, which is an important resource with local information on the different types of health needs necessary to ensure you and your little one thrive. I have detailed the services available, financial support available to you and important initiatives to help you navigate what can be a new or challenging time.
“Whether they are a first time parent, or an experienced pair of hands, I want to ensure caregivers have all the information they need to make caring for babies and toddlers in our region the most enjoyable and supported experience it can be,” said David Smith
“The old saying is it takes a village to raise a child, and I sincerely hope we can deliver this strong sense of community in Bean,” David Smith said.
