March Bean Community Update

31 March 2026

From David Smith MP - March eNews

March has been a busy month in Parliament, and the Albanese Government continues to take action to support Australians with the cost of living.

Just this week we announced three measures that will make a real difference:

  • halving the fuel excise on petrol and diesel for three months — reducing the cost of fuel by 26.3 cents per litre, or nearly $19 off a 65L tank.

  • providing more bulk billing GP visits, through two new bulk billing clinics in Bean (Molonglo and Tuggeranong).

  • supporting the removal of fees and surcharges on credit and debit cards at the checkout.

We have already cut taxes for every Australian taxpayer, and we will be cutting taxes again this year and next. We are also reducing student debt by 20 per cent, capping the cost of PBS scripts so people won’t pay more than $25, expanding bulk‑billing GP visits, providing energy bill relief for every household, delivering free TAFE, and more.

Our government is continuing to make superannuation fairer for all Australians. Low-income workers will pay less tax on their super and get more money back. This will boost the superannuation savings of 1.3 million Australians

Our government has also made significant strides in support for women’s health by delivering more choice, lower costs and better health care for women. We are providing endo and pelvic pain clinics, menopause assessments on Medicare and new contraceptive and menopause treatments on the PBS. And now we're doing more by improving cardiovascular diagnosis, treatment and care for women, because too many are being misdiagnosed or treated too late.

There’s always more to do, and we’ll keep working to deliver for every Australian.
