April Bean Community Update

30 April 2026

From David Smith MP - April eNews

It has been a busy month in the community. I spent time at schools, shopping centres, community events and cafes. I also announced funding for the YWCA, road improvements in Wanniassa and a new AED defibrillator at Lake Tuggeranong. If you have an event, cause or organisation you would like me to attend please get in touch.

We had a number of public holidays during April. We celebrated Easter and commemorated ANZAC Day. Thank you to all those who worked across these days.

You will have noticed that fuel prices have started easing. This is because the Albanese Government has cut the fuel excise tax and has been working with other countries to secure more fuel supply.

The Federal Budget will be handed down on Tuesday 12 May. The focus will be on tackling intergenerational inequity and ensuring the long term future of the NDIS. I will update you on all the Budget news next week.

The past weekend has marked one year since I was re-elected as the Member for Bean as part of the election of the second Albanese Labor Government. I am proud of what we have been able to get done in Bean, especially in health.

There’s always more to do, and we’ll keep working to deliver for every Australian.
