Meet David, your local Federal representative.
I am proud have been elected to the House of Representatives as the first Federal Member for the seat of Bean in 2019. This followed a brief period of service in the Senate from 2018 to 2019.
Before entering Parliament, I held several roles within the public and community sector including in the labour movement with Professionals Australia and the Australian Federal Police Association. These positions allowed me the opportunity to:
- advocate for the importance of fairness, safety and equal pay and conditions for all workers
- promote the value of community and public service; and
- make the case for greater integrity in government.
These are issues that I have been passionate about my entire working life and continue to be a significant focus of my role in Parliament.
In the last Parliament, from 2019 to 2022, I served as the Secretary of Labor’s Caucus Committee on Education, Science Research and the Arts, the Co-Chair of Parliamentary Friends of the Capital Region, and Parliamentary Friends of Pain Management. I was also a Member of the Joint Parliamentary Committees on Public Works, the National Capital and External Territories, and the Parliamentary Library.
At the start of the 47th Parliament, in July 2022, I took on the role of Government Whip in the Albanese Labor Government.
I am fortunate to still live in Farrer with my wife and three children, a community I grew up in. I attended local schools then went on graduate from the Australian National University with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons). Access to quality education in our region is something that we need to ensure continues to be available for all young people growing up in Bean.
Together we can build a better future for all across the Bean electorate.
