Canberrans deserve a better a better NBN

My office has been inundated by complaints from constituents and businesses of the second rate National Broadband Network (NBN) services they receive in Canberra.

My Canberra Labor colleagues and I recently wrote to the Minister for Communications and the CEO of the NBN expressing our concerns around the poor quality of the infrastructure rollout right across the Canberra region.

It is clear that Canberra residents and businesses have received a second rate network and are now paying a price.

More than 70 per cent of Canberra's NBN is made up of Fibre to the Node technology. That is higher than any other major urban centre in the country. That is not good enough.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted for many Canberrans just how bad the NBN is in our community. For many people working from home, the NBN has not been good enough.

Labor will continue to hold this 8-year-old Morrison government to account for the second-rate multi-technology mess that has not been faster or cheaper – on every measure it has been slower and more expensive.

I will keep the pressure on in Parliament. Will you work with me to make sure the Liberals know they cannot get away with providing second rate services to Canberra?

The Liberals must promise to allocate a significant amount of the $3.5 billion in funding to "finish the NBN" to the Canberra region.

I encourage you to write to the Minister for Communications, Paul Fletcher, the NBN and ACT Liberal Senator Zed Seselja to voice your concerns and keep the pressure on.

Thank you

David
